Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rahi on Monday deplored the continuous presidential vacuum, reminding that the Constitution provides for the election of a new president within two months after the expiry of the former president's term. "What are the dimensions of this sought vacancy while south Lebanon is not only at risk of war, it is in a state of cold war," Rahi said at the inauguration of the Maronite Church Synod activities in Bkerki. "Houses are being destroyed, people are being displaced and they are leaving their homes, new maps are being devised in the Middle East countries, not to mention the border demarcation between Lebanon and Israel, as well as between Lebanon and Syria," he said.
