HH Shaikh Nasser receives first Bahraini to complete UTMB ultramarathon

His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HM the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, received Bahraini Runner Fatima Hussain, the first athlete from Bahrain and the GCC to participate in Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB).

HH Shaikh Nasser congratulated Hussain, who is also a senior process engineer at Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO), om completing the world famous trail running event.

HH praised the efforts of youth in the sports sector, noting that Bahrain takes pride in its sports talents who continue to leave their mark in international sport events.

HH noted that the difficulties and challenges in this race faced make its completion by a young Bahraini woman a significant addition to Bahrain's track record of international championships, underlining his constant support for the country's sporting talents.

During the meeting, Hussain spoke about the challenges she endured during the race, which continued for 47 hours without sleep.

"Being surrounded by majestic mountains with stunning views helped me get through the race and ultimately make it to all the checkpoints on time," she added.

"Raising the Bahraini flag at the finish line for the first time in the history of this race was worth all the hard work over the past few years."
