BERRI DISCUSSES SECURITY AND POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS WITH UNIFIL COMMANDER, BELGIAN AMBASSADOR, INTERIOR MINISTER

House Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Tuesday received the Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Major General Aroldo Lázaro, at the second presidential headquarters in Ain al-Tineh. Discussions reportedly focused on the country's general situation, particularly the ongoing field developments amid Israel's continued aggression on Lebanese border villages with occupied Palestine and the role of UNIFIL in its operational area. Speaker Berri also met with the Belgian Ambassador to Lebanon, Koen Vervaeke, with whom he discussed the country's general situation, political and field developments, as well as bilateral relations between the two countries. Berri continued his consultations on political developments and security conditions during a meeting with the Caretaker Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Bassam Mawlawi. "Our visit to Speaker Berri today is significant and necessary. We are hopeful for positive news regarding the situation in the south, with a potential ceasefire in G aza soon extending to South Lebanon, a region of heroes enduring injustice,' Mawalwi said. 'We also briefed Speaker Berri on the security situation in the country, the work of the security forces, and the operations of all Interior Ministry agencies, especially at the beginning of the summer season. We hope this season will be peaceful and stable, bringing hope and stability to the Lebanese people, who are known for their resilience and progress,' the Interior Minister added. Mawlawi concluded by highlighting the importance of Beirut International Airport, stating, "We discussed the critical issues of energy and electricity at the airport, as well as its security, which is managed by the airport security apparatus and the Interior Ministry with utmost dedication."
