Bahrain to mark Olympic Day on Saturday

Manama, Nov. 3 (BNA): Preparations are in full swing to hold the annual Olympic Day in Bahrain at the Water Garden City Beach in the Seef District tomorrow.

His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, General Sports Authority Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President, will patronise the event, set to be held on Saturday, between 03:00 pm and 06:00 pm.

The Bahrain Olympic Day will feature many competitions and sports shows, such as sailing, rowing, beach soccer, and beach volleyball, which will be held at 3:00 p.m., in addition to water swimming, padel, mixed martial arts, netball, weightlifting and aquathlon will take place at 3:30 pm.

The main event will be the Olympic Day run, for which registration has been opened via the website for the age groups under 15 years, 16-19 years, 20-40 years, and over 41 years. An interactive theatre, including many competitions and shows, will also be held.

The starting point of the Olympic Day race will be at the intersection of the City Centre Mall and Reef Island, where T-shirts and numbers will be distributed starting at 2:30 p.m. There are parking lots at the starting point, and a bus will be provided to transport the participants from the main event site, “Water Garden City Beach" to the starting point.

BOC affirmed the completion of its preparations for the Bahrain Olympic Day, while the organising committee convened to follow up on the latest procedures taken to ensure the success of the event, in coordination with the relevant entities.

It is worth noting that the Olympic Day is an international Olympic Movement event observed every June 23 to promote mass participation in sports. However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allows national Olympic committees to hold the event on the dates they deem suitable for ensuring its success.
