In collaboration with Global Innovation Management Institute (GIMI), the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau (CSGDB) concluded a three-day hackathon for government services in the State of Qatar with the participation of 35 innovators from 17 government agencies.
The hackathon aims to design innovative solutions for government services using best practices in line with Qatar's 2030 strategy for research, development, and innovation.
The hackathon brings a group of innovators together to provide innovative solutions by presenting ideas and solutions that contribute to promoting the life journeys of the currently provided government services. On the first day, the team works reviewed the life journeys of the currently provided government services, identified current challenges by putting the customer among the priorities of targeted improvements, and conducted research to learn about the best practices and global experiences in four life journeys (birth, marriage, divorce, and death) according to government services classifications, and then chart the future life journeys for services to address the challenges and offered best innovative solutions.
On the second day, the participating teams dealt with identifying the gaps between the current and future life journeys to identify the activities that must be completed to reach the future journey by preparing prototypes to display innovative solutions.
On the last day, the teams concluded their competitions by completing their work on the prototypes set during the second day of the hackathon and presenting ideas and innovations to provide solutions for challenges and present them to the jury. The jury chose the team for the marriage life journey as the best solution/prototype and the winning team was honored.
HE President of the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau Abdulaziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak Al Khalifa stressed the importance of holding such events in boosting innovation in the governmental sector and improving the quality of service provided to customers by exchanging expertise and encouraging human cadres to innovate within a competitive environment to achieve speed and highly efficient and innovative services.
He added that involving highly qualified governmental sector employees in the journey of developing the services provided by their employers comes within the framework of consolidating cooperation and exchanging ideas and best practices among the competing teams and contributing to promoting their skills in developing the provided services. It also comes in line with what the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau is doing in terms of complementary efforts for the strategy of developing government services and linking them with the Government Excellence Award, "Sharek" platform, and several other initiatives, such as the Mystery Shopper initiative and others to create a unified experience for the customer with the government services to reach the provision of best government services with quality and high efficiency.
In turn, Director of Government Development Affairs at the Civil Service and Government Development Bureau Hassan Abdul Rahman Al Ibrahim said that the CSGDB has worked during the last period on a group of initiatives, including the government services strategy, which resulted in the government services guide and other guides that will be launched soon.
He noted the contract of the CSGDB with Sprinklr company, in cooperation with the Government Communications Office and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to develop the Sharek platform, which will contribute to achieving the concept of an integrated experience for government services.
The hackathon comes as an activation of the role of government development in stimulating an innovative environment, spreading the culture of the customer first, and encouraging work as one team to facilitate the procedures of customers with government agencies.
The CSGDB organized preparatory workshops for innovation in government services at Qatar Research Development and Innovation Council (QRDI) with the participation of more than 60 innovators from five government agencies to chart and track government services, analyze challenges, and propose best practices using the latest technologies and programs to chart and track those services, in cooperation with the Supreme Judiciary Council, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Public Health, and the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC).
