UPDA Chief Executive: Urban development efforts continue

Manama, Ahmed Abdulaziz Al Khayat, Chief Executive of the Urban Planning and Development Authority (UPDA), affirmed Bahrain's keenness to continue efforts to enhance sustainable urban development in line with the visions of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the continuous follow-up from the government headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Al Khayat affirmed that the authority continues to develop sustainable urban plans and urban policies to meet Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 and the Government Programme goals (2023-2026), noting Bahrain’s commitment to achieving sustainability in various developmental, social, economic and environmental fields contributed to implementing comprehensive, flexible and sustainable urban plans in line with the eleventh goal of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

His remarks came to mark World Cities Day, which falls on October 31 under the theme "Better City, Better Life", with the aim to promote sustainable urban development worldwide.

UPDA has begun preparing 96 plans for unplanned areas. Eighty two plans have already been approved, and work is currently underway to complete and approve the remaining plans by next year while ensuring that community service and public facilities are integrated into these plans.
