UNION FOR THE MEDITERRANEAN TO TAKE PART IN EMERGENCY INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON URGENT HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE FOR GAZA

Union for the Mediterranean to take part in emergency international conference on urgent humanitarian response for Gaza

NNA – Union for the Mediterranean Secretary General Nasser Kamel will be contributing to the “Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza” conference that will be held next Tuesday in Jordan.

Organised by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United Nations, heads of states and governments as well as of international organisations, financial institutions and nongovernmental organisations will gather to identify Gaza’s humanitarian assistance needs, how to overcome obstacles to aid delivery, and early recovery priorities.

The event will begin with remarks by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan Ayman Safadi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Sameh Shoukry and United Nations Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian A
ffairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths.

Attendees will then take part in three parallel working group sessions on the abovementioned items before giving the floor to King Abdullah II of Jordan, President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi of Egypt and United Nations Secretary General António Guterres. This will be followed by speeches by heads of states, governments and other delegations, including the UfM Secretary General.

A joint declaration is expected to be issued at the end of the conference.
