UN Seeks Release of Peacekeepers Detained in Golan Heights

New York, August 28 (QNA) – The UN says it is working to secure the release of 43 peacekeepers from the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force who were “detained” by an armed group early Thursday in the Quneitra area of the Golan Heights.

The movement of another 81 peacekeepers operating in the area has been “restricted”, the UN says, adding that the incident took place during a period of increased fighting.

“The United Nations is making every effort to secure the release of the detained peacekeepers, and to restore the full freedom of movement of the Force throughout its area of operation,” it said in a statement.(QNA)
