UAE takes part in OIC Summit meetings

WAM CAIRO: Preparatory meetings for the Twelfth Session of the Islamic Summit Conference began today in Cairo with the holding of the Senior Officials meeting ahead of the Foreign Ministers meeting and the Summit of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) during the next few days.

The UAE delegation to the meetings is led by Assistant Foreign Minister for International Organizations Affairs, Dr. Saeed Al-Shamsi.

Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs of the OIC, Ambassador Abdullah Alim, on behalf of the OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, welcomed the participants and congratulated Egypt’s government and people on the occasion of the second anniversary of the January 25 revolution.

Alim said that Egypt is capable of overcoming all the current challenges and move forward with confidence towards achieving stability, security and sustainable development.

Ambassdor Alim added, “we look forward today with great appreciation to the chairmanship of Egypt, which the Muslim world has high expectations of towards more active joint Islamic solidarity.” He expressed high appreciation to the efforts exerted by Egypt in organizing this important conference.

Ambassador Alim also extended his thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz for his visionary outlook for strengthening Islamic solidarity by his initiative to hold the Third Extraordinary Islamic Conference in Makkah in 2005, which launched the reform and reinvigoration process witnessed by the OIC in all fields through the Ten-Year Program of Action adopted at that conference, and by hosting the Fourth Extraordinary Islamic Conference also in Makkah last August, which in turn adopted important resolutions towards uniting Muslims and rejecting dissection.
