UAE partakes in Council of Arab Ministers of Information meeting

WAM CAIRO: The UAE took part in the meeting of the executive bureau of the Council of Arab Ministers of Information in Cairo to discuss the agenda of the 44th session of the council scheduled on Tuesday.

The UAE delegation to the meeting was led by Acting Charge d’Affaires of the UAE Embassy in Cairo, Ahmed Hatim Al-Menhali, and includes Director of the Department of Media Control at the National Media Council (NMC), Jum’a Al-Laim, and Third Secretary at the Embassy in Cairo Ali Al-Shamili and Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Fahad Al-Habsi.

Today’s meeting was chaired by Jordanian Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications ‘&’ Minister of Culture, Sameeh Al Maayta.

16 items including ways to stop jamming of Arab satellite broadcasts, Bahrain’s request to withdraw the membership of the Lebanese Communication Group’s Al-Manar TV and Noor Radio from the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU), as well as the extent of Arab media’s observance of the Arab media code of conduct in their coverage of the Arab revolutions, were among 16 items on the agenda of the two-day meeting, according to the head of the Technical Department of the Council, Ambassador Yasser Abdul Menem.

Bahrain’s request was referred to the General Assembly of ABSU which will take a decision on the issue, he noted.

The role of Arab media organizations in countering terrorism and the implementation of resolutions on media issues by the most recent Arab Summit and the Arab League, Arab joint action on media, media support for the Palestinian cause and to some Arab countries and the implementation of the 10-year Partnership Plan for Media and Communication in the Arab Region (2009-2018) were also discussed by the Bureau, he added.
