U.S. welcomes hosting of the Global Counterterrorism Forum in UAE

WAM Abu Dhabi, Dec 14th, 2012 (WAM)–Deputy U. S. Secretary of State William J. Burns said here today the United States of America appreciates the very important role the United Arab Emirates is playing to host the Global Counterterrorism Forum.

“It’s a reminder of the significance of the Emirates’ leadership on a wide variety of issues of concern to the United States, as well as to our partners in the UAE. It’s a reminder of the ways in which we cooperate not just in fighting violent extremism, but also in working on a range of issues important to regional security and stability as well as regional prosperity,” he added.

Burns noted that one good example was the recent Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Dubai, which again underscores the important role that both the United Arab Emirates and United States play in trying to encourage greater innovation and greater opportunity for people across this region.

“We also work very closely together on important issues such as accelerating the transition to a new leadership in Syria, a leadership that the people of Syria desperately need and deeply deserve.
