Sharjah: Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah HH Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi will give patronage to the inaugural national conference of the UAE Writers.
The annual conference to be organized by the Emirates Writers Union in December in Sharjah will run under the slogan: “Towards a National Culture Strategy”.
The Ruler has also offered to bear all the expenses of the conference, scheduled to last two days and will be attended by a constellation of top writers and intellectuals in the country. A large number of officials in charge of culture and creativity initiatives in various organisations, government agencies and private sector in addition to a number of prominent cultural figures in the Arab world will also attend this major event.
Announcing the Ruler’s patronage, Chairman of the Emirates Writers Union Habib Youssef Al Sayegh, who also heads the Board of Trustees of the conference, said: “The Ruler of Sharjah endorsed the estimated budget for the conference, and gave directives to the authorities to facilitate everything possible to make the event a great success”.
The Ruler also ordered to put the resources of the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information at the disposal of the General Secretariat of the conference helping it achieve the desired goal; added Al Sayegh.
This is the first time a national level conference of UAE writers is being organised since the inception of the Emirates Writers Union, noted Al Sayegh.
“The conference will shine light on the cultural life of the country and will come out with major recommendations that will contribute in drawing the general features of a national strategy for culture”, Al Sayegh asserted.
He thanked the Ruler of Sharjah for his generous gesture, which Sayegh described a continuation of similar supports that he always rendered in his right as the patron of culture , who himself is one of the most celebrated persons of genuine creativity in the UAE.
The Ruler of Sharjah will receive the participants and members of the Secretariat organising the Conference, before officially inaugurating the event.
Deputy Chairman of the Emirates Writers Union and Secretary General of the annual conference Najib Said Al Shamsi said that the Secretariat dearly appreciates the efforts of HH the Ruler of Sharjah to embrace cultural initiatives not only in the UAE, but also in several Arab countries and other regions of the world. His enthusiastic participation in many cultural activities continues to give strong impetus to the cultural march in which thousands of writers and literary men participate. This enhances the social and economic renaissance led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Thir Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of emirates added Al Shamisi.
The inaugural conference will be named after the founding father of UAE late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan in tribute to his pioneering role in leading the country’s renaissance, disclosed Al Shamisi.
He extended invitation to all intellectuals and writers, citizens and residents in the country, to participate actively in enriching the movement of creativity and take advantage of the wonderful cultural climate experienced by the UAE, which provides a healthy environment open to the cultures of the world.
