Spain's Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz have withdrawn from the Monte Carlo Masters, which will kick off Saturday.
In a message on social media Nadal said, "I am still not ready to compete and will miss one of those special tournaments I always love to play." "Monte Carlo is and has been a key event in my career, but unfortunately, I will have to miss it again since I am still not ready to compete without the risk of getting injured. I will continue the process of getting ready to come back." Nadal has been away from the ATP tour since the Australian Open, in January, when he lost in the second round to Mackenzie McDonald. He revealed that he had picked up a grade two tear to his iliopsoas muscle in Melbourne, and was expecting to be out for six to eight weeks.
For his part, Alcaraz said, "After two months abroad, I am happy to return home but sad because I finished my last match in Miami with physical discomfort. After visiting my doctor and being evaluated, I will not be able to go to Monte Carlo to start the clay court tour," said Alcaraz. (QNA)
