Social Development Minister participates in GCC Ministers of Social Development Affairs meeting

Doha, Osama bin Ahmed Khalaf Al Asfoor, Minister of Social Development, participated in the 10th meeting of the GCC Ministers of Social Development Affairs, chaired by the Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF) of Qatar.

The ministers approved the adoption of the GCC strategy for social development, unified policies to strengthen societal cohesion, and the promotion of Gulf citizenship and Arab-Islamic identity. They also formed a team to draft the 2025-2030 action plan for the strategy and launched a unified guide for quality domestic violence prevention programmes.

Other decisions included developing social empowerment programmes for low-income individuals and families, approving updates made by Bahrain’s Supreme Council for Women to the women’s strategy for 2024-2030, and hosting the 7th Gulf Theater Festival for People with Disabilities in Qatar later this year, with the UAE to host the 8th edition.

The member states also launched the third report on the implementation of the Convention on t
he Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the first Arab report on this group.

The meeting also agreed to hold the 48th coordination meeting alongside the 44th session of the Arab Ministers of Social Affairs and establish a team for regional and international cooperation among GCC states.
