Social Development Minister heads Bahrain delegation in OIC conference

Osama bin Ahmed Khalaf Al Asfoor, Minister of Social Development headed Bahrain’s delegation in the second session of the Ministerial Conference on Social Development, held under the theme "Social Justice and Social Security" in Egypt.

The conference was organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), under the patronage of Abdel Fattah El Sisi, President of Egypt. It reviewed social, cultural and media cooperation between member states.

The conference highlighted social, domestic, child labour issues in society, as well as social security issues of elderly people with disabilities.

The minister affirmed that Bahrain’s participation comes within the framework of social development mechanism, and exchange of expertise among member states to achieve societal security.

The conference issued the Cairo declaration draft, which included recommendations aligned with the outcome of the Foreign Ministers Council 49th meeting on protecting marital and domestic values in Islam and emphasizing the importance of boosting cooperation with social development agencies and organizations.

The conference called on member states to comply with decisions and recommendations of OIC meetings, and support social protection programmes and cooperation to counter risks and challenges that face families.
