Abu Dhabi: The Sheikha Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation organized its fourth Muntada forum entitled What does the future look like?”, which took place on Tuesday at Manarat Al Saadiyat.
The forum hosted a lecture by two renowned international speakers: Mr. Ray Kurzweil and Dr.
Michio Kaku. During the talk, both speakers shared their predictions on how technology and science will shape the future of humanity.
Ray Kurzweil elaborated on the growth of information technologies which has progressed every year through higher performance and lower cost. Ray Kurzweil is one of the leading inventors and principal developer of the first CCD flat-bed scanner, the first omni-font optical character recognition, the first print-to-speech reading machine for the blind, the first text-to-speech synthesizer, the first music synthesizer capable of recreating the grand piano and other orchestral instruments, and the first commercially marketed large-vocabulary speech recognition.
Dr. Michio Kaku shared some of the future new technologies which include the internet glasses, transparent screens and driverless cars. Dr. Michio is one of the most widely recognized figures in the science in the world today. He is an internationally recognized authority in two areas; the first is Einstein’s unified field theory, which Dr. Kaku is attempting to complete and the other is to predict trends affecting business, commerce, and finance based on the latest research in science. Dr. Kaku holds the Henry Semat Chair in Theoretical Physics at the City University of New York where he has been teaching for almost 30 years.
The forum was attended by Sheikh Dhiab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Affairs Authority (EAA); and Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Chief Executive Officer of the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (MASDAR); as well as other guests and interested individuals. The event was open to public.
In addition, the forum will organize on November 9th a discussion featuring emerging Emirati artists who will be presenting and discussing their work at the Art for All initiative. The artists are Alia Lootah, Dana Saif Al-Mazrouei, Hamdan Buti Al Shamsi, Maitha Demithan and Shamsa AlOmaira.
On November 26th, the forum will host a talk titled Social Media and beyond’ with Dom Sagolla, Co-Creator of Twitter; Alexis Ohanian, Cofounder of Reddit; and Chris Brogan, President of New Marketing Labs, as the key speakers.
Finally, the forum will host on 17 December a lecture titled New Year resolutions’ by Dr. Wayne Dyer, an author and speaker in the field of self-development.
Muntada is a program under the Sheikh Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation, which aims to stimulate creative thinking and new ideas through active discussion, debate and learning.
