Sharjah Ruler receives Board of the General Authority for Security of Ports, Borders and Free Zones

WAM Sharjah,Feb 11th, 2013 (WAM)– H. H. Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council member and Ruler of Sharjah, received today the Board of the General Authority for Security of Ports, Borders and Free Zones led by Ali Mohammed Al Shamsi in the presence of Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Qassimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.

Sheikh Sultan highlighted the national role played by the Authority in the ports sector due to its security, economic and social importance by devising security strategies and national policies that ensure international highest standards and best practices of safety and security in ports, borders and free zones.
Sharjah Ruler commended the general policy of the Authority which is based on enhancing cooperation and direct coordination with the concerned government departments responsible for security of ports in the UAE, thus contributing to development of mechanism of action and common security standards that facilitate the process of taking flexible and easy measures to serve customers without compromising security prerequisites.

He stressed the importance of updating the procedures for improving security operations and introducing modern technology and security-related information management systems.

Sheikh Sultan was briefed by Al Shamsi on the objectives and terms of reference of the Authority, which operates under the jurisdiction of the Higher National Security Council.

Al Shamsi praised the great support lent to the Authority by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Gen. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor.

The Authority was established in 2011 with a mandate to propose and recommend draft laws and general policies regarding security of ports, borders and free zones as part of the national security strategy.
