Seoul: N. Korea Fires 2 Short-Range Ballistic Missiles

General

The South Korean army announced at Wednesday dawn that North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea, in protest against the launch of the nuclear advisory group between South Korea and the US, and the docking of the American nuclear-capable strategic submarine (SSBN) in a port in the city of Busan.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of the South Korean army said in a statement that the army fired two short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea in the Sunan area towards the East Sea, explaining that the two missiles flew a distance of about 550 km before splashing into the sea of the Korean Peninsula.

The statement said that the South Korean and US military authorities are currently conducting a comprehensive assessment of the missile's specifications.

The statement strongly condemned North Korea's recent series of missile launches as "acts of significant provocation" that harms peace not only on the Korean Peninsula but also in the international community, and as a "clear" violation of UN Security Council resolutions, calling on the northern neighbor to immediately stop the launch process.

The JCS of the South Korean army affirmed that the army will closely monitor the relevant North Korean moves under the close cooperation between Seoul and Washington, in preparation for facing additional military provocations by North Korea.
