Road Accident Kills Seven Students, Injures Six Others in Northeastern India

Seven students were killed and six others injured as their SUV collided with a pick-up van in the Jalukbari area of Guwahati in Assam state, northeastern India.

The speeding SUV rammed the median divider and collided head-on with a pick-up van coming from the other direction.

Police said the dead were engineering students in Assam. Meanwhile, the injured were taken to hospital for treatment.

Tens of thousands die in traffic accidents in India annually. Official statistics for the past year indicate that about 135,000 people die in traffic accidents annually in the country. India ranks second in the world after China in terms of the countries with the highest number of deadly traffic accidents.
