The Reading Assistant Program, one of initiatives organized at the margins of 32nd Doha International Book Fair, seeks to consolidate the value of reading within the community and is witnessing huge turnout from various age groups.

Reading assistant program advisor Amal Hamed said the program is an initiative aiming to attract reading fans from children, adolescents, and adults. It is provided during the whole period of the fair activities to help visitors.

The initiative is the first-of-its-kind at book fairs and has become operational since the last edition of Doha book fair, she said, pointing out that the initiative assists new readers to take steps towards entering the world of book based on readers’ orientations and propensities of different scientific, social, religious, and historical types and its chief purpose is to expand reading circle.

There are two platforms at the fair one for males and the other one for females to provide counselling service which begins with the presentation of an electronic survey to the beneficiaries which includes a set of questions about beneficiaries’ interests through which their background is identified, along with their knowledge field and the key objective of reading to reach the appropriate area and books for them, Amal Hamed outlined.

Following the counselling service, the initiative provides proposals to them regarding books that best suit his or her field to streamline the process of borrowing books. The program also directs visitors to attend key theatrical events, seminars and workshops at the fair.
