QU, QATAR MEDIA CORPORATION LAUNCH COORDINATION MEETING TO EMPOWER MEDIA STUDENTS

HE CEO of Qatar Media Corporation Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Thani Al-Thani alongside Qatar University President Dr. Hassan Al-Derham inaugurated the Coordination Meeting to empower media students and graduates yesterday in Qatar University (QU). The meeting was organized by QU’s media department, in cooperation with Qatar Media Corporation, with the aim of refining student skills, developing their capabilities, and opening the doors of training and employment opportunities for them, with the participation of officials from a number of media institutions in the country.

During the meeting, leaders of the media and press institutions presented their aspirations for the personality of the journalist and his qualifications that respond to the renewed transformations in the media industry. They also discussed strategies and mechanisms for empowering media students and graduates, opening training and employment opportunities in media institutions and public relations and strategic communication departments in the country. This is in addition to discussions on how to confront fake news and be credible, accurate and professional.

HE CEO of Qatar Media Corporation Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Thani Al-Thani, stressed the importance of mobilizing and developing human energies to meet the requirements of Qatar National Vision 2030 in the field of media.

He said, “The importance of this meeting lies in the fact that it is a partnership between two institutions interested in developing the media profession in the State of Qatar, namely Qatar University and Qatar Media Corporation, where the university prepares future leaders and gives them the scientific tools to ensure their practice of the profession as required from a scientific point of view, and the institution then refines their experiences and talents and provides them with practical skills in order to respond to the needs of the Qatari labor market.”

For his part, QU President Dr. Hassan Al-Derham, expressed his hopes and aspirations for this meeting to be a turning point in the relationship between the Department of Media and the Qatar Media Corporation. He also pointed out that this event represents a practical translation of the university’s strategic plan aimed at providing society with a graduate who meets the various developmental needs sought by the state.

Dr. Hassan Al-Derham noted that the meeting comes as a gesture of cooperation between the university and Qatar Media Corporation, stressing in this field that those concerned with the media in Qatar meet to discuss the prospects of cooperation between graduates to draw lessons and motivate graduates and students to more effort in this important vital field because the media represents the soft power to promote heritage, preserve national security and present a distinguished image of Qatar, explaining the importance of organizing this dialogue, in which students listen to rich experiences and models in the field.
