QU OFFERS 20 INTERNSHIP PROJECTS FOR SUMMER RESEARCH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM 2022

Qatar University Young Scientists Center (QUYSC) is dedicated to the transformation of the national youth into resilient, intentional, critical, and engaged people. The center aims at empowering young generation to support them in developing technical & communication skills and career readiness, thereby serving as a pipeline to recruit new talent into scientific and research domains. With its impeccable experience in mentoring students, the center is honored with the responsibility for hosting the Summer Research Internship Program 2022 at the Qatar university premises. The program will run from 22nd May 2022 to 23rd June 2022. The program offers two tracks: Track 1: Outcomes directed Intensive research program and Track 2: Research & training focused

This year, the program organizes 20 leading edge projects, capable of promoting competency development and employment readiness. Summer Research Internship Program 2022 will witness the participation of seven research centers and four colleges. The research centers include Center For Advanced Materials (CAM), Laboratory Animal Research Center (LARC), Central Laboratories Unit (CLU), Environmental Science Center (ESC), Biomedical Research Center (BRC), Social and Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI), and Qatar University Young Scientists Center (QUYSC) while the participating colleges are College of Dental Medicine (CDM), College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, College of Arts and Science (CAS) and College of Education (CED).

The research projects are strictly align with the United Nations Sustainability Development goal (SDG) 4 – Quality education, thereby ensuring excellence in training and skill development. Besides, the projects also align to the other UN - SDG goals of ensuring environment protection, quality in drinking water and health, sustainable energy management etc. These projects also align to the research pillars of Qatar University - Energy and Environment, Health and Biomedical Sciences, Information and Communication Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities. Despite the shortened summer vacation in this year, the program is also witnessing huge student participation with around 300 students registering for the courses. The Vice President for Research & Graduate Studies, Prof. Mariam Al-Maadeed emphasizing the scope of the projects said, “Summer Research Internship Program 2022 offers projects that provides the theory to application, hands-on experience and strategic counseling that nurtures students into transformational leaders as well as acknowledging the significance of sustainable development in paving the future”.

Prof. Noora Al-Thani, Director of Qatar University Young Scientists Center (QUYSC) implicates the impact of the Summer Research Internship 2022 stated that “The program organizes projects that offer contemporary, valuable and significant contributions to the sustainable development of the nation thereby encouraging students to pursue diverse opportunities to balance their academic coursework, in parallel articulate and reflect their knowledge, skills & attitudes to employers and graduate schools alike”.
