The Office of Graduate Studies at Qatar University (QU) organized a Graduate Studies Open Day, which aimed to provide potential postgraduate students with essential information for their studies. The event attracted over 150 prospective students from Qatar University and other institutes.

The event was held in participation with the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Engineering, the College of Law, the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, the College of Business and Economics, the College of Education, the colleges of QU Health (College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy, College of Health Sciences), QU Library and the Admissions Department. Moreover, for the first time, the event involves the participation of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Qatar University Testing Center, the QU Scholarships Office and the Office of Research Support

The event gathered a significant number of entities that contribute to the knowledge enrichment of the prospective graduate student. The goal of the event was to provide prospective students with all the required information to facilitate their graduate studies application and process. Each entity had their own booth to allow the audience to visit them and discuss all of their inquiries regarding graduate studies in various programs. In addition, the Office of Research Support participated for the first time in this event to facilitate the development of research work at the university through providing student research funds, publishing awards, and participating in research projects inside and outside QU.

The event included several lectures and workshops including a government sponsorship lecture, which was presented by Mr. Ahmed Albalam, the Head of Academic Counseling Section, who discussed the process of government sponsorship policies and processes, in addition to presenting the different educational institutes that are accredited in the country.

Dr. Fatima Al-Mohannadi, Acting Director of Scholarship and Capacity Building, presented a lecture on the process of sponsorship abroad through QU, its policies and processes, the available options for taking an academic career path, and the correct method for applying to either a master or doctorate degree. Maged Fathallah Abdelzaher, a Senior Career Counselor at the Career Development Center, discussed effective techniques for the students on how to prepare for admission interviews.

The admission for graduate studies at QU for Fall 2020 opened on 3 November 2019 and will close on 30 January 2020. Afterwards, the admitting colleges will contact the students to settle the dates of the personal interviews or the required examinations in order to announce the admission results in April 2020.

Assistant Dean of Graduate Studies for Student Affairs Ms. Ghada Al Kuwari, said that the Graduate Studies Open Day is an opportunity for all prospective graduate students to have all the required information and knowledge that allows them to identify their academic goals and prepare for them. She commented saying the Student Affairs Office at the Office of Graduate Studies is keen to offer students the necessary support from the date of their admission, to prevent any obstacles during their studies.

Associate Dean of Graduate Studies Dr. Ahmad Al Own, said that QU currently has over 47 programs in different majors and fields. In addition, a program on executive master of leadership was recently approved and will start soon in cooperation with Qatar Leadership Academy.

Dean of Graduate Studies Dr. Ahmed Elzatahry, added that the graduate studies programs in QU are focusing more on research and encouraging students to enter this field, which is in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
