QU HOSTS 13TH EXCELLENCE DAY CONFERENCE

Under the title of Education through the pandemic and beyond

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), under the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Qatar University (QU), conducted its 13th Excellence Day conference with the theme ‘Education through the pandemic and beyond’ on 24 May 2022.

The conference brought together faculty members from across Qatar University (QU); to exchange experiences that would increase students' learning opportunities.

Dr. Omar Al Ansari, Vice President for Academic Affairs, opened the conference and the keynote speaker at the conference, Dr. Hessa Al-Thani, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs at the College of Education at Qatar University gave a presentation entitled “Educational Innovation towards a Good Life”.

The main title of the conference this year was centered on Education through the pandemic and beyond, while the forum discussed other topics related to the main topic, such as: mix education and learning - flexible mixture, augmented and virtual reality, lessons from the epidemic, the future of education and learning, partial certificates - learning Partial, open education.

The conference was attended by: Dr. Tamer Khattab, Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and a number of members of the academic staff at Qatar University. The forum was also hosted (remotely) by Professor Josh Bookin, Director of Instructional Support and Development at Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he reviewed the lessons Learned in Harvard classrooms during the pandemic.

In a statement, Dr. Omar Al-Ansari, Vice President for Academic Affairs at QU, said: “The University is currently developing some courses, these courses would be held remotely to keep pace with the emerging requirements in education after the Covid-19 stage, and to carry out this task efficiently, the university has already created a new center for E-learning and distance education.”

For his part, Dr. Tamer Khattab stated that the university provides activities and courses for faculty members to develop their expertise in education in accordance with the university's strategic plan. In order to shift to a learner-centered education based on research and experiment in a creative framework.

The 13th Excellence Day event brings together faculty members from all colleges to share innovative experiences that maximize students learning. The main theme this year is “Education through the Pandemic and Beyond” The event will include sessions with sub topics such as: Hybrid/Hyflex teaching and learning, augmented and virtual reality, lessons from the pandemic, the future of teaching & learning, micro degrees/micro learning, and open education
