QU HEALTH GRADUATES THE FIRST BATCH OF STUDENTS FROM ITS PHYSICAL THERAPY PROGRAM

QU Health, a part of Qatar University (QU), celebrated the graduation of its first batch of Physical Therapy students from QU’s College of Health Sciences (CHS). Seventeen students graduate from the program, following four years of study and obtaining a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy.

The Bachelor’s program was launched in 2018 to contribute to building the workforce in the field of health care in Qatar in line with the National Development Strategy 2030. It is the first academic program for practicing physiotherapy in the State of Qatar.

CHS had previously organized campaigns to raise awareness about the physiotherapy program, encouraging students to join. The College used challenges posed by the pandemic as opportunities to grow and enhance the program, including strengthening its partnerships with partners in the health sector in the country, such as the Ministry of Public Health and the Hamad Medical Corporation, through continuous coordination with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs.

Vice President for Health and Medical Sciences at QU Dr. Asma Al Thani stated, “This new achievement represents a new and fruitful addition to QU Health, to achieve the university’s goals for growth and expansion through graduating competent graduates to join the professional workforce of health professionals.”

CHS Dean, Dr. Hanan Abdul Rahim praised this achievement, saying: “The vision of the program, since its inception, has focused on contributing to the health care cadre in the State of Qatar by preparing highly knowledgeable graduates. Today, we are graduating the first batch of the Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from Qatar University armed with self-orientation, self-confidence, and adaptability, in partnership with health care providers in the country; as highly qualified physiotherapists to enhance the health sector in the State of Qatar.”

Acting Head of the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science Dr. Linzette Deidre Morris, said, “Today is a historic moment where we graduated from the first natural therapists who were trained in Qatar for the residents of Qatar. Despite the challenges, ascension and landing, and Covid-19, today we are graduating 17 wonderful physiotherapists, who make us very proud to be part of their education journey. We look forward to noting how they contributed to the health care system in Qatar, how they systematically enhance the current physical therapy services in health centers, clinics, and hospitals in Qatar, and how they develop as health care professionals. We hope each of you has the best in the next stage of your journey.”

Ilham Abdul Wali Rawani, a graduate from the Physiotherapy Program said, “I am very proud to be among the first batch of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation program to be graduated from Qatar University.
