QU CELEBRATES THE SUCCESS OF THE SUMMER RESEARCH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM -2021

The Research and Graduate Studies Sector at Qatar University (QU) organized a Certificate distribution Ceremony for the success of the Summer Research Internship Program-2021.

The ceremony was held online on 28th September 2021. Dr. Nasser Abdullah Alnuaimi, Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, the directors of research centers, faculty members, researchers, and participating students attended this event.

Ten research centers of QU conducted this program from 7 June to 1 July 2021. Namely, Center for Advanced Materials (CAM), Environmental Science Center (ESC), Biomedical Research Center (BRC), Laboratory Animal Research Center (LARC), Central Laboratories Unit (CLU), Qatar University Young Scientists Center (YSC), Social & Economic Survey Research Institute (SESRI), Ibn Khaldoon Center (IKC), National Education Development Center (NEDC), and Gas Processing Center (GPC).

This internship program was organized for graduate and undergraduate students of Qatar University, students from the Academic Network for Development Dialogue (ANDD) member universities, and employees of The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME). The directors, technical managers, and staff of the respective centers took a keen interest in making this program a great success.

As part of the preventive measures followed by Qatar University to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), the Summer Research Internship was conducted online. Total 28 specific research-related topics were covered during the internship, around 250 participants from different colleges actively participated in this summer research internship -2021.

The Office of VPRGS plans to conduct such a program every summer to promote research culture among undergraduate and graduate students and encourage their research activities.

In the ceremony, a report on the summer internship was presented by Dr. Abdelbary Elhissi, Director of Research Planning and Development. He congratulated the participants for grabbing this opportunity of gaining research-related knowledge. One QU student and one ANDD student presented their internship experience.

Dr. Abdelbary Elhissi, Director of Research Planning and Development, stated “this program is an important part of QU's transformative and human resources capacity-building strategy and commitments toward national research priority”.

Dr. Nasser Abdullah Alnuaimi, Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, thanked all who participated in this internship program and said, “The program allows the students to promote their skills in scientific research, support their theoretical knowledge with practical training in their specialization, and pave the way toward a successful future career”.

Dr. Alnuaimi added, “this year, I am happy to note the participation of international students from member institutions of the Academic Network for Development Dialogue (ANDD), this cooperative initiative brings together many regional and international academic institutions, with the support of the United Nations, ESCWA, and Qatar University. The ANDD aims to advance the process of sustainable development in the region. In addition, I would like to thank all participants from the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).We wish to have more participants from national and international entities”.
