For its part, The Peninsula said in its editorial: “Like many other sectors which are witnessing tremendous development and growth in Qatar, country’s economy is booming under concrete strategies and timely decisions of state’s leadership.” In a latest development, the daily said, the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2024, issued by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland, has placed Qatar at the 11th rank out of 67 countries, most of which are developed countries, compared to the 12th rank last year. The competitiveness assessment was based on the developments witnessed by a comprehensive set of data and indicators provided at the local level, along with the results of an opinion poll of a sample of company managers and businessmen on the business environment and the competitiveness of the Qatari economy, as well as comparing such data and indicators with counterparts from other reviewed countries.
In the report, Qatar ranked high in the four main factors: economic performa
nce (4th), government efficiency (7th), business efficiency (11th), and infrastructure (33rd), said The Peninsula.
The newspaper added: “Within the government efficiency factor, the Qatari economy ranked first in both the consumption tax rate and the personal income tax rate, while it ranked second in the public finance index. As for the business efficiency factor, Qatar ranked first globally in both the effectiveness of corporate boards and the migrant stock, while it came in second place globally in the working hours index. Under the infrastructure factor, Qatar ranked first in the sub factors of energy infrastructure and the number of internet users per 1000 people.” Under the title “Qatar and Afghanistan”, Al Sharq newspaper indicated in its editorial today that the State of Qatar is continuing its sincere efforts to support the Afghan people, adding that it is sparing no effort in its efforts to enhance regional and international security and stability. It pointed out that this position comes out of Qat
ar’s firm position to stand by the Afghan people to achieve security, stability, prosperity and decent living.
The daily added that the State of Qatar has always played vital roles with regard to the Afghan file since its sponsorship of the negotiations between the United States and the Taliban movement and the success of its mediation in concluding a historic peace agreement that led to the withdrawal of US and coalition forces from Afghanistan, as well as its decisive and main roles in the massive evacuations of foreigners and Afghans and its efforts to help the Afghan people face various challenges in the humanitarian, economic and livelihood fields, in addition to its roles in ensuring the continuation of dialogue between all parties to reach effective and sustainable solutions.
Concluding its editorial, the newspaper pointed out that Doha is preparing to host the third meeting of special envoys on Afghanistan, organized by the United Nations at the end of this month, to advance the process of communica
tion, dialogue and coordination between the international community and the caretaker government of Afghanistan, in a way that helps in developing and implementing humanitarian and development programs and promoting and protecting human rights and ensuring a decent life for the Afghan people.
