Doha, October 16 (QNA) – Vice President of the Supreme Education Council HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thani today inaugurated the new library building of Qatar University which was built according to the latest international specifications and standards in the field of library buildings.
The library new premises, opened in the spring of 2011, reflects the development the university is witnessing at various levels and confirms the university’s commitment to enhancing the status of the State of Qatar as a beacon of science and knowledge in the region.
HE Sheikha Hind girl Hamad Al Thani was accompanied during the library’s inauguration by the President of Qatar University Dr. Sheikha Abdullah Al Missned, the University’s Vice President, a number of deans and heads of departments and staff working in the sector libraries from various academic and non-academic institutions in the country such as Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), College of North Atlantic, the Community College of Qatar and the Museum of Islamic Art.
On the occasion, Dr. Sheikha Al Misned expressed her pleasure over the opening of the new library building under the patronage of HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani . She said, “The University of Qatar is committed to persistent effort towards providing its students with high-quality education and lifelong learning skills, adding that the library, with its modern contents and spacious areas, will be a valuable source for students, researchers and faculty members to help them in achieving excellence and success. The library services are not limited to those, but also welcomes community members from outside the University to take advantage of the services provided by the library and its content, Sheikha Al-Misned added.
After a brief presentation, HE Sheikha Hind toured halls of the new library, which was designed to contain more than a million library materials.
The library building is located in the part of the University campus that has been developed recently and consists of five floors extending on an area of 51.464 square meters, equivalent to 553.958 square feet. The ground and first floors have been allocated the ground for the university’s female students and faculty, staff and visitors, while the second floor was devoted for university students from various disciplines.
Furthermore, the library welcomes visitors, researchers and all members of the Qatari society and provide them with free services.(QNA)
