Qatar Participates in Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS

The State of Qatar participated Wednesday in the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, currently in session in Marrakesh in the Kingdom of Morocco.

The delegation of the State of Qatar was chaired by HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi.

Delivering the statement of the State of Qatar at the meeting, HE Al Muraikhi extended sincere thanks to HE Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates of the Kingdom of Morocco Nasser Bourita for hosting the meeting, and thanked all member states of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS for their commitment to continue active participation in order to ensure the enduring defeat of the ISIS.

HE Al Muraikhi said that the spread of terrorist groups and their continuation of their terrorist acts despite the military operations directed by the international community against them is closely related to the fragility of the political situation in some regions, and also due to the security vacuum, the absence of the rule of law, the spread of corruption, and the deteriorating economic conditions in some countries.

His Excellency reiterated the necessity of adopting a comprehensive approach to address the root causes of terrorism, especially the political ones, through preventive diplomacy, mediation and good offices, which the State of Qatar believes and affirms as a cornerstone of its foreign policy, in addition to economic empowerment and enhancing the role of education.

He added that the threat of the ISIS-Khorasan still exists in Afghanistan, noting that the State of Qatar has spared no effort in communicating with the Afghan caretaker government, on more than one occasion, and emphasizing with it the importance of adhering to its commitments, especially in accordance with the Doha Agreement with regard to combating terrorism and not to allow individuals or terrorist organizations to use Afghan territory against the security and safety of other countries, as well as to fight the ISIS-Khorasan.

He noted that the State of Qatar appreciates the efforts of the Afghan government in fulfilling this commitment, but it is looking forward to more intelligence cooperation and logistical support. Therefore, it is important to explore the possibility of finding a creative mechanism for cooperation between the Global Coalition and the Afghan caretaker government in order to ensure the effectiveness of the joint efforts in combating the ISIS-Khorasan, especially since Afghanistan is a member of this global coalition.

HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs reiterated the State of Qatar's firm and supportive position for the Afghan people, and their right to live with dignity and achieve their aspirations. He stressed the importance of protecting civilians and human rights, especially women's rights and girls' right to education; and the importance of the international community continuing to provide support to Afghanistan at this critical stage, and to separate the field of humanitarian aid from political disputes, in preparation for achieving stability in Afghanistan.

His Excellency expressed Qatar's appreciation for the efforts of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS to eliminate terrorism in all its forms, and affirmed the State of Qatar's aspiration to work with all members to achieve regional and global security, stability and peace.
