Qatar Participates in a Round-table on Regionalization and Global Health

On the side events of the 2022 World Health Summit, Qatar participated in a round- table discussion on regionalization and global health – implications of global jobs and cooperation. The Summit hosted by the German capital of Berlin from October 16 to 18.

Her Excellency Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, the Minister of Public Health, represented the State of Qatar at the meeting, in which representatives from various regions including the African Union, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the European Union participated.

In her speech during the meeting , Her Excellency Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al-Kuwari stressed that the State of Qatar, under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, attaches great significance to global health security, noting that the State of Qatar has provided support to the World Health Organization, United Nations programs, and countries during the COVID-19 pandemic and other health emergencies to ensure continued access to medicines and vaccines, and access to health facilities. "Because diseases do not stop at borders, stopping their spread requires collaborative global efforts," she said.

She added: "Countries around the world also face similar health challenges such as population ageing, increasing chronic diseases, antibiotic resistance, and the threat of deadly epidemics." , pointing out that there is an urgent need to develop strategies, medicines and vaccines in order to combat poverty-related and neglected diseases, and to stop preventable deaths at early ages.

During the roundtable, experiences were exchanged on how regional cooperation and dynamics have developed in recent years and during the COVID-19 pandemic, and how to ensure that the international health system is the most harmonious, modern and effective was discussed also.
