Qatar Hosts 1st GCC Scouts and Guides Committee Meeting

Doha: The State of Qatar is hosting the 1st meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states' Scouts and Guides committee, commencing today and running until June 28. Convened based on the decision issued by the 8th Meeting of Their Excellencies the Ministers of Education of the GCC countries that took place in Doha on June 4, the GCC Scouts and Guides committee meeting is discussing the technical committees' recommendations, approving the activity plan and schedule for GCC Scout and Guide activities for next year, as well as setting the committee's strategic plan, among other important topics. Commissioner General of the Qatar Scouts and Guides Association Jassim Al Hardan emphasized the importance of implementing the decision of Their Excellencies Ministers of Education, which calls for enhancing Gulf Scout committee work, launching Gulf volunteer work projects, developing leadership training modules, and programs that instill Islamic and cultural values among participants. He also highlighted the in tegration of the Scout Committee and the Guide Committee of the GCC countries into one committee headed by the state that chairs the GCC session. In a press release, Al Hardan said that these matters are Qatar Scout and Guide Association priorities, as well as some of the key issues and programs of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. Al Hardan further stressed the importance of participating in joint Gulf Scout activities, noting that on the margin of the Doha meeting, workshops will be held with regard to Scout supervision of national associations and the strategic plan for GCC Scout associations.
