Qatar Coordinates Negotiations to Adopt UN Resolution on Education for Sustainable Development

The Economic and Financial Committee (Second Committee), of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, adopted a resolution that the State of Qatar and Tajikistan contributed to coordinating negotiations on its provisions, reiterating that Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is a vital means of implementation necessary to achieve sustainable development; an integral part of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) is related to quality education and a key enabler of all other goals.

The State of Qatar and Tajikistan, on behalf of the Group of 77 and China, coordinated the negotiations on the resolution, and the group commended the role played by the Third Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani, in coordinating negotiations and discussions on the text of the resolution.

The Economic and Financial Committee (Second Committee) of the UN General Assembly welcomed the growing international recognition of Education for Sustainable Development within a quality of education for all and lifelong learning and called on the international community to provide quality education at all levels.
