Qatar Charity organize ‘winter’ event in support of refugees and IDPs

To convey the voice of refugees and the displaced living in extremely harsh weather conditions, Qatar Charity (QC), as part of its ‘Warmth and Peace’ winter drive, has organized a ‘winter’ event at Doha Festival City under the auspices of Dukhan Bank and in cooperation with ‘Wmnahyaha Team’ of Qatar University.

The event was held to draw people’s attention, raise awareness of the needs of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), showcase their suffering in winter through an innovative expression.

During the event, which was held for the first time in Qatar, a winter song of Qatar Charity was launched, and used as a background for the scene of a flash mob, which is a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place and perform for a brief time for different purposes.

Wmnahyaha Team’s performance reflected some problematic situations experienced by the refugees and the IDPs. The song conveys the sorrow of refugee children who sleep in open with no covers protecting them from the severe cold of winter and snowfall.

The event saw a remarkable response from the audience, who liked this artistic expression. Some of them said that this event caught their attention and enabled them to know the suffering of the refugees. This calls on every one to respond quickly to the humanitarian appeal launched by Qatar Charity to help the vulnerable.

“Qatar Charity always launches a variety of creative initiatives and innovative projects, utilizing them in the community work,” Qatar Charity’s Program and Community Development department director Fatima Jumah al-Mohannadi. She also noted that this event reflected the basic needs of the refugees and underprivileged families to stay properly warm and safe.

“We are very proud to be the official sponsor of the ‘winter’ event held as part of Qatar Charity’s ‘Warmth and Peace’ drive, in support of the refugees and the IDPs,” said Mr. Talal Ahmed Al-khaja, Chief Marketing & Communications Officer at Dukhan Bank.

He added that the event come as part of the bank’s social responsibility program, which is an essential pillar of its institutional culture, indicating that the bank, as part of its social commitment, will continue to launch community initiatives and fully support various current and future initiatives of the partners to make a positive impact.

Doha Festival City General Manager Robert Hall said that this initiative represents one of Doha Festival City's commitment to contribute to activities aimed at developing the community and supporting all its all sections, in line with its community initiative #FestivalCares that contribute to enhancing community awareness.

‘Wmnahyaha Team’s head Hisham Zaki expressed his happiness with the team’s participation in the drive, indicating that the situations of the refugee and IDP camps in winter are unimaginable. He noted that this event will urge people to support the inhabitants of the camps.
