Qatar Charity Obtains Validation Letter from CHS Alliance

Qatar Charity obtained a Validation Letter from CHS Alliance after completing the self-assessment of its humanitarian and development programs as well as the quality of services provided to those targeted.

According to a press release from Qatar Charity today, the letter emphasized that Qatar Charity has shown its commitment to learning to apply basic humanitarian standards of quality and accountability and accordingly it has been approved in the list of organizations that have been verified on the official coalition website.

Qatar Charity conducted the self-assessment as an essential step to support and strengthen its commitment to those standards in its humanitarian and development programs, to develop the quality and effectiveness of the assistance provided to the targeted communities and to enhance its leading role in adhering to the best international standards related to quality and accountability.

The self-assessment included staff, internal systems (policies and procedures), crisis-affected people (beneficiaries), and partners.

Director of the External Affairs Office at Qatar Charity Ahmed Al Rumaihi said that this step contributes significantly to strengthening the position and reputation of Qatar Charity at the international level, as efforts to improve the quality of the assistance provided are considered to ensure an effective humanitarian response and avoid any potential negative effects when evaluating that aid, which is a major requirement to build effective relationships and partnerships with donors from international humanitarian organizations and institutions.

Al Rumaihi stressed that Qatar Charity is working to continue strengthening its leading role in adhering to the best international standards in all the services it provides to the communities with which it works. It also seeks to enhance professional humanitarian services provided to beneficiaries, including the adoption of basic humanitarian standards.

The Core Humanitarian Standards on Quality and Accountability set out nine commitments that organizations and individuals involved in humanitarian response can use to improve the quality and effectiveness of the assistance they provide. These standards also provide greater accountability to communities and people affected by crises. Knowing what humanitarian organizations are committed to will allow communities to hold those organizations accountable. The Core Humanitarian Standards also place communities and people affected by crises at the center of humanitarian action and promote respect for their human rights. These obligations are based on the right to life with dignity, and the right to protection and security as enshrined in international law.

The "self-assessment" helps member organizations, including Qatar Charity, to measure the organization's implementation and compliance with commitments related to quality and accountability, which attaches great importance to people affected by crises, by providing validation and compliance tools, which aim to monitor and evaluate basic procedures and organizational responsibilities in the organization to ensure that the needs of the organization are met.

The self-assessment of Qatar Charity aims to determine the extent of its commitment to basic humanitarian standards, develop the necessary improvement plan to address identified weaknesses, and develop the necessary systems and tools to enhance accountability towards those affected by crises, in addition to raising awareness of employees about basic standards in humanitarian work through training and awareness.

The Coalition of Basic Humanitarian Standards related to quality and accountability is a global alliance that includes more than 150 national and international humanitarian organizations, including Qatar Charity, which joined the Coalition in 2017, in addition to development organizations committed to improving the quality and effectiveness of humanitarian aid.
