Ramallah - Together - On the first day of Eid al-Fitr, on Wednesday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas discussed with a number of Arab leaders and officials the latest developments in the Palestinian issue and the need to accelerate an end to the 'Israeli war of annihilation' that has been ongoing in Gaza for more than 6 months. On the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, President Abbas will receive phone calls from the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the Jordanian King, King Abdullah II. President Abbas briefed the leaders on the latest Palestinian developments and the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip. During telephone calls with Arab officials, the Palestinian President also discussed "the need to speed up the cessation of the war of genocide in the Gaza Strip." He stressed "the importance of accelerating the introduction of humanitarian, relief and medical aid, preventing disp lacement, and stopping the dangerous Israeli escalation in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, stressing the importance of the State of Palestine gaining full membership in the United Nations." In conjunction with an ongoing war on Gaza, settlers increased their attacks in the West Bank, and the Israeli army escalated its operations, which led to the killing of 459 Palestinians, the injury of about 4,750, and the arrest of 8,145, according to Palestinian sources. Eid al-Fitr fell this year while Israel was waging a devastating war on Gaza, leaving more than 100,000 martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly, according to Palestinian and UN data.
