Portugal without Pepe and Lopes against Turkey in WC play-off

Portugal will be without veteran defender Pepe and goalkeeper Anthony Lopes in their World Cup play-off semi-final with Turkey on Thursday. The 39-year-old Pepe has tested positive for the coronavirus and will be replaced by Lille defender Tiago Djaló while Wolves’ Jose Sa will come in for the injured Lopes. Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal are in the play-offs having conceded a last-gasp winner to Serbia, who qualified automatically, in their final group game. If Portugal defeat Turkey they will face the winner of Italy v North Macedonia on March 29 for a place in the finals in Qatar.
