Poroshenko Promises Dialogue in Ukraine

Kiev, May 26 (QNA) -Ukraine’s president-elect, Petro Poroshenko, on Monday promised to reach out to the country’s restive east and to Russia, only hours before heavy fighting hit the city of Donetsk for the first time.

Poroshenko, won Sunday’s election with 54.33 per cent of the vote, confirmed the country’s election commission late Monday, with 90.01 per cent of the ballots counted.

He clearly beat former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who came in a distant second with 13 per cent of the vote, confirmed the commission.

Poroshenko announced a Western-orientated foreign policy but also promised to engage in dialogue with the regions controlled by
pro-Russian separatists, adding that there can be no solution without Moscow.(QNA)
