Head of Polio Eradication Committee in Gaza Strip Dr. Majdi Dahir stressed the intensive efforts being made to implement the second phase of vaccination against the virus in the Gaza and North Governorates, after it was disrupted by the ongoing Israeli occupation aggression on the Strip.
In special remarks to Qatar News Agency , Dahir said that the second dose of vaccination was supposed to start on Oct. 22 in the Gaza and North Governorates, but the occupation’s aggression prevented that, and it was postponed to Oct. 28, but the continued invasion of the northern Gaza Strip thwarted the vaccination process.
He expected that the efforts made by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF would succeed in vaccinating 120,000 children in the Gaza and North Governorates under the age of ten early next week, as part of combating the virus that was discovered inside the Gaza Strip as a result of the catastrophic conditions caused by the war on Gaza.
In a previous statement, the Ministry of Health in the Gaz
a Strip had confirmed that the occupation was trying to abort the polio vaccination campaign by all means, preventing the campaign teams from reaching northern Gaza, and placing obstacles in the way of its implementation in Gaza City as well, warning that the campaign was at risk of failure, which means the continued existence of the polio epidemic that will not only threaten Gaza but also threaten the entire surrounding region.
