Parliamentary delegation: Parliaments play key role in legislating against tax evasion to promote economic growth, social justice

Geneva, The Bahrain’s parliamentary delegation, represented by MP Dr. Mahdi Abdulaziz Al Showaikh and Hala Ramzi Fayez, Shura Council member, participated in the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development meeting at the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Geneva.

The delegation emphasised the crucial role of parliaments in combating tax evasion to achieve sustainable development through effective legislation, enhanced oversight, and support for international cooperation. It said that this promotes economic growth and social justice, requiring strong commitment and decisive action.

The delegation underscored Bahrain’s efforts in attracting foreign investments through laws ratifying tax agreements that prevent double taxation and tax evasion.

Dr. Al Showaikh noted that a fair and efficient tax system supports investments and fosters a productive business environment, contributing to sustainable economic growth. He emphasised the need for strong tax legislation, enhanced oversight, transparency mec
hanisms, and international cooperation.

Hala Ramzi Fayez added that Bahrain’s economic laws have helped attract investments and capital, reflecting its favourable business environment. She also noted that parliamentary efforts to combat tax evasion are key to achieving sustainable development and ensuring economic stability and social justice.
