The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine expressed its welcome of the efforts of the United Nations Security Council towards assuming its responsibilities in protecting civilians and the Palestinian people who are being subjected to the crime of genocide deliberately committed by Israel for more than 171 days, according to Palestinian News Agency, WAFA.

The Foreign Ministry confirmed in a statement, Monday evening, that the adoption of an immediate ceasefire decision is a step in the right direction toward stopping the aggression completely and sustainably, and the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, the entry of aid, and the forced return of the displaced to their areas and neighborhoods, despite the destruction and pain.

The Foreign Ministry called on the member states of the Security Council to fulfill their legal and historical responsibilities to implement the resolution immediately.

It underlined the importance of intensifying internationa
l efforts, including in the Security Council, to achieve a permanent and sustainable ceasefire that extends beyond the holy month of Ramadan, and to secure the entry of international aid into the Gaza Strip to prevent the continuation of the disaster and famine, and to work immediately to release prisoners, hostages and detainees, and prevent forced displacement. .

The Foreign Ministry of the State of Palestine appreciated the initiative of the countries elected to the Security Council, led by Algeria, Ecuador, Guyana, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, the Republic of South Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, and Switzerland, and their submission of a draft resolution calling for a cessation of aggression and a ceasefire.

It also praised the countries’ positions that are consistent with international law in this regard, and the accession of Russia, France, and China.

The Foreign Ministry stressed that the international consensus to stop the aggression against the Palestinian people, bring in aid, and prevent forced dis
placement must be accompanied by practical steps and consequences for Israel, the illegal occupation authority, to stop the war of extermination and other war crimes and crimes against humanity.

“The success of the draft resolution today is a correct step, but it needs development on the path to the UN Security Council fulfilling its assigned role in maintaining international peace and security,” the Foreign Ministry emphasized.
