Obama, Merkel Discuss Ukraine Crisis

Washington, August 28 (QNA) – US President Barack Obama said the US will not take military action “to solve the Ukrainian problem,” but reiterates NATO’s commitment to its members in the region.

“Ukraine is not a member of NATO, but a number of those states nearby are,” Obama said.

In a phone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the two leaders agreed “that Russia is responsible for the violence in Ukraine,” Obama said, German Press Agency dpa reported.

“In our consultations with European allies and partners, my expectation is we will take additional steps … even though (they) are bearing the costs of implementing these sanctions.”(QNA)
