NAO participates in ASOSAI General Assembly meetings

New Delhi, The National Audit Office (NAO) participated in the 16th General Assembly meetings of the Asian Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI), which was held in India from September 23-27.

The meetings were attended by Qassim Ahmed Al Madhoob, the Assistant Auditor-General of Performance Audit; Suhail Khalil Sakhnini, Director of Regularity Audit; and Salah Saleh Al Yafeai, Director of Administrative Audit.

The General Assembly meetings included the election of the members of the new Executive Board and members of the Audit Committee for the 2024-2027 session, while the presidency of the organisation was officially transferred from Thailand to India, and Saudi Arabia was selected to host the meetings of the next Assembly, which will be held in 2027.

The attendees of the convention reviewed a set of reports on the activities carried out by the General Secretariat since the previous General Assembly (2021), including the results of the Bangkok Declaration, the organisation’s strategic plan,
its capacity development activities and cooperation with other regional organisations, and the results of the work of the working groups on environmental auditing, sustainable development goals and crisis management auditing.

The meeting agreed to establish new working groups on auditing state-owned enterprises, auditing information technology and data analytics, auditing provinces and municipalities, and adopted the New Delhi Declaration on Empowering SAIs to Audit Digital Public Infrastructure and Inclusive Governance.

The meetings also included a seminar on “Digital Public Infrastructure and the Gender Gap – Issues of Inclusion and Accessibility”, which included group discussions and presentations by some of the participating SAIs.

NAO’s participants was briefed on international experiences in the field of auditing and the importance of exchanging experiences and enhancing cooperation to provide value-added audit services to develop the institutional capabilities of the SAIs.

Representatives of 39 SAIs
in the organisation’s 48 member states attended the General Assembly meetings, in addition to the President of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) and the Deputy Director General of the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI).
