DOHA, May - The Qatari Athletics Federation announced the participation of more than 200 athletes from all over the world in the Doha Round, the second round of the Diamond League for Athletics 2021, which will be held tomorrow at "Suhaim bin Hamad" stadium in Qatar Sports Club, amid precaution within a bubble system. In addition to the participation of more than 100 technical and medical personnel and escorts.
The Director of Teams at the Qatar Athletics Federation, and Director of the Doha Diamond Round Championship Khalifa Yusef Abdul Malik, expressed his happiness at the prominent attendance of world athletics champions and celebrities who were keen to be present in Doha in order to prepare in the best possible way for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
In a press statement today, Abdul Malik said that preparations are proceeding in full swing, as final touches are being put on the track and field of Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium to receive the heroes tomorrow, indicating that more than 200 players have confirmed their participation in the Diamond League Doha in addition to more than 100 technical and medical personnel and escorts.
He emphasized that this large participation enhances the reputation of the State of Qatar, which always seeks to implement the best regulatory standards, in addition to strict precautionary measures to confront the Coronavirus (Covid-19).
He added, "We have previously succeeded in the challenge and doubled our experiences in hosting sports with health challenges thanks to the great cooperation with state institutions, especially the Qatar Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Public Health and other relevant authorities in this regard." He stressed that the State of Qatar is able to organize the world championships under any circumstances, thanks to its capabilities, whether at the logistical level or the organizational expertise of Qatari youth, who have become able to meet the challenges, however difficult they are.
Abdul Malik explained that the Qatari national team is seeking to increase the number of qualifiers for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, saying: "We wish our players good luck and if they manage to achieve their personal numbers, this will enable them to qualify, which is a suitable opportunity for many of them to prove their abilities.
For his part, the Assistant Secretary of the Qatar Athletics Federation Talal Mansour, affirmed that the Doha Diamond Round has become attractive to the legends and world champions of Athletics. It also comes as the last tournament before the start of the Olympic Games in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, which doubles the importance of the Doha Round in preparing the athletes.
Talal Mansour said in a similar press statement: "This round will be one of the best tournaments for this year as it comes directly before the Olympics, and all athletics stars are eager to compete in Doha, especially in light of the suspension or postponement of the world championships in the past due to the continuing outbreak of the Coronavirus."
He added: "I expect that the Qatari national team champions will reap the qualifying cards for the Olympiad and all conditions are ready for them to achieve this goal, whether at the level of physical and mental preparation or the great support on the part of the Qatari Federation."
