MOI Calls on Citizens to Register Names on Voter Lists for CMC Elections

The Ministry of Interior (MOI) called on Qatari nationals to register their names in the voter lists ahead of 7th Central Municipal Council elections due on June 22.

The voter registration phase will start Sunday, April 30, and will continue until Thursday, May 4, the MOI said Thursday in a statement.

Voters can either register their names by hand at the polling stations from 4 pm till 7 pm or online via Metrash 2 app around the clock, the statement read.

The statement stipulated these conditions for eligible voters: - They must have an original Qatari nationality or have obtained it more than 15 years ago; - They must be above 18 years old on May 4, 2023; - They have not been previously convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude or dishonesty, unless they have been rehabilitated; - They must be residing in the constituency where they have the right to vote, must not be affiliates of the armed forces or the police Citizens should proceed with the registration procedures themselves at their constituencies, according to the residence address in their IDs, or via Metrash 2 app. They are not allowed to register in more than one constituency.

Those who have previously been registered have the right to move to another constituency, according to their current actual residence.

According to the CMC election timetable, the preliminary voter lists will be announced at the polling stations, with the door to grievance and appeals process against these lists open on Sunday, May 7.
