Mirdef Ali Al Qashouti’s SIDCOT SWALLET wins Wadi Al Sail Cup

The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) organised the 30th race meeting in the 2021-22 season at the Al Rayyan Racecourse sand track on Wednesday, 26 January. It was a meeting of large margins and the largest was full eight lengths in the fifth race. In the seven-race day’s feature contest, Mirdef Ali Al Qashouti’s SIDCOT SWALLET (GB) (Showcasing x Reedanjas) landed the Wadi Al Sail Cup. Faleh Bughanaim recorded a double on the day as he rode the Mohammed Ghazali-trained colt to prevail by two lengths in the day’s feature, a 1200m Maiden for 3-6YO Thoroughbreds. It was a one-two for the winning trainer as he also saddled the runner-up, the Ahmed Abdulla A M Al-Abdulla-owned STATE PATROL (IRE) (Zoffany), who was ridden by Olivier d’Andigne. The Hamad Bin Abdulrahman Bin Hamad Al Attiya-owned and Jassim Ghazali-trained MASTER OF BRAZIL (GB) (Prince Of Lir) was third as he finished further three lengths behind under Szczepan Mazur.

QREC Racing Manager, Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi presented the trophies to the winners.

BAB AL RAYYAN

In the penultimate race of the evening, Ronan Thomas recorded a quick-fire double gaining his third win on the day as he rode the Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi-owned BAB AL RAYYAN (QA) (Mayson x Dorothy’s Dancing) to win the 1200m Handicap (0-95) for 4YO+ Local Thoroughbreds by a length and quarter for trainer Bader Al Balushi.

DELIBERATE ATTACK

Al Nassar Racing’s DELIBERATE ATTACK (IRE) (Vadamos x Selfara) gave a great display of front running in the Handicap (0-80) for 4YO+ Thoroughbreds. Ronan Thomas recorded a double on the day as he rode the Hamad Al Jehani-trained colt to string out the field and take the 1800m contest by eight lengths.

ANEES

Nasser Saeed Al Eida’s ANEES (FR) (Jaafer ASF x Dixie Darlene) regained winning thread with a strong performance in the 1900m Handicap (0-75) for 4YO+ Purebred Arabians as he bolted up by four lengths under Yousef Khalifa Al Jehani for trainer Jassim Ghazali.

MUNTAZAH

Umm Qarn’s MUNTAZAH (FR) (Al Mamun Monlau x Nashmiya II) proved the best in the 1700m Maiden for 4YO Purebred Arabians. Under Ronan Thomas, the Alban de Mieulle-saddled colt stretched clear of the field to win by four and a half lengths.

SAMOS

Al Shaqab Racing’s SAMOS (FR) (Wootton Bassett x Playing Trix) was the comfortable winner of the 1700m Maiden for 3YO Thoroughbreds. The Eric Lemartinel-trained colt was ridden to a length victory by Faleh Bughanaim.

USHAYQER

Mohamed Abdulla Abdulmalik’s USHAYQER (QA) (Abide With Me x Itsher) kicked off the day with a bang as he kicked clear to take the 1200m Maiden for 3-6YO Local Thoroughbreds by five and a half lengths under Szczepan Mazur for trainer Mohamed Khaled Elahmed.
