Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Opens Sheikha Wafaa Bint Ahmed Mosque

Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) for Da'wah and Mosques Affairs, Mohammed bin Hamad Al Kuwari inaugurated Tuesday the Sheikha Wafaa bint Ahmed Mosque in Umm Al Amad village, Umm Salal municipality.

The 1060-capacity mosque was built on a total area of 4,000 square meters with a total cost of QR 5,433,000, as part of the ministry's plan to expand the number of mosques and develop them nationwide, and to keep pace with urban growth and population increase, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.

The mosque also has 25 public parking lots, a number of which are allocated for people with disabilities, and accommodation for the imam and the muezzin.

The Department of Engineering Affairs is concerned with providing the needs of the country's districts in terms of mosques, providing temporary mosques and supervising their preservation, and preparing the annual plan for the maintenance of mosques and imams' residences in coordination with the relevant authorities.

The department takes into account the different areas of lands on which mosques will be built and requirements for green and sustainable buildings, emphasizing the conditions for sustainability in the use of electricity and water, and preserving the aesthetics of heritage in designs, in a way that reflects the authenticity of Qatari and Islamic heritage in accordance with the highest standards.
