HE the Minister of Culture Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad al-Thani, praised Qatar Charity’s efforts in the cultural field. This came during his visit to Qatar Charity’s pavilion at the first ‘Ramadan Book Fair’ organized by the Ministry of Culture at the western arena of Souq Waqif, and participated in by 35 publishers from Qatar and nine countries. The book fair continues until April 16.
Qatar Charity gifted the minister many of its publications, including books and the books of stories developed under ‘Future’s Writers’, a program implemented by Qatar Charity to discover and nurture the young talents in the field of writing short stories on moral and humanitarian topics.
Qatar Charity, along with 17 organizations and publishing houses from Qatar, has participated in the book fair, as part of its responsibility to promote the values of humanitarian work and the culture of volunteer work.
The opening of the exhibition was attended by Qatar Charity’s officials, volunteers, and many winners of the ‘Future’s Writers’ program.
Qatar Charity’s pavilion has a variety of valuable books and publications focusing on the ethical, humanitarian and educational aspects and volunteer work, in addition to the publications of the ‘Future’s Writers’ program. The pavilion also has some activities for children.
On the sidelines of the book fair, Qatar Charity organized several events, workshops, and symposiums for people in different age groups.
During a symposium entitled ‘Volunteers in Field", Mohsen Fahd Al-Hajri, an activist and storyteller, talked about his humanitarian and volunteering experience, shedding light on his personal field experience with Qatar Charity. He also discussed some significant happenings and the act of delivering aid to Syrian refugees in Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon, touching on the suffering experienced by the refugees in the camps.
Al-Hajri emphasized the importance of volunteering and paying field visits, which have an impact on the target beneficiaries and the volunteer. He also presented some humanitarian situations he lived during his trips, and the benefits he gained from volunteering, concluding the symposium by providing advice and recommendations to the volunteers. The symposium also included a question-answer session.
Besides, Qatar Charity held a workshop for children, which included storytelling. The workshop saw significant interaction with the children.
The symposium is scheduled to host, Mr. Abdulrahmman Saleh Al-Ashqar, a media person, who will talk about his experience in the field of humanitarian and volunteer work, especially his field visits with Qatar Charity.
