MILITARY TECHNICAL COMMITTEE FOR LEBANON MAKES A DONATION TO THE LEBANESE ARMY

In recent days, in the Headquarters of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) of South Lebanon, in the presence of Brigadier General Edgard Lawandos, Commander of the South Litani Sector (SLS), the Military Technical Committee for Lebanon (Military Technical Committee for Lebanon - MTC4L) made a donation of food and support items. The MTC4L, an Italian-led multilateral coordination technical body, has as its main task that of supporting the LAF in the definition of a roadmap which includes a phase of recruitment, training, equipment and financing but, at the same time, in this initial phase, in which the MTC4L meetings define the "operational" line, support in logistical terms is also of significant importance. In this context, the strengthening of the LAF device in Southern Lebanon, in compliance with Resolutions 1701 (2006), 2650 (2022) and 2695 (2023) of the United Nations mission (UNIFIL), also involves physical and mental reconditioning, also given the very serious economic crisis that afflicts the 'Land of C edars'. On this occasion, the MTC4L passes from 5 to 8 partner nations, with the entry of the United States, Canada and the Netherlands, in addition to the previous member nations such as Italy, France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom. It is worth underlining that the MTC4L also aims at the redeployment of the LAF south of the Litani river, inserting itself, without overlapping, in a context already largely consolidated by the presence of historical and different realities, between UN international communities and bilateral missions (e.g. MIBIL), with the aim of restoring the security conditions that have deteriorated in the last period. Finally, it is necessary to underline the interactive approach of Italy which, through the MTC4L, immediately understood the needs of the local community and donated, also in recent days, food kits to CARITAS in Beirut, demonstrating the indissoluble bond that exists between the population and the LAF, a key element to encourage the return of displaced people and a re newed presence of the Lebanese Armed Forces in southern Lebanon.
