Magnitude 6.1 Quake Hits Japan

Tokyo, August 10 (QNA) – An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 struck off the coast of Aomori Prefecture on Sunday, jolting northeastern Japan areas and Hokkaido, but no tsunami alert has been issued, (Kyodo) reported citing the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The quake, which originated around 50 kilometers under the seabed off Aomori, registered lower 5 on the Japanese seismic scale of 7 in Shichinohe in the prefecture, the agency said.

Tohoku Electric Power Co. said it has received no reports of abnormalities at its Higashidori nuclear plant in Aomori. Bullet train services on the Tohoku Shinkansen Line were temporarily suspended, according to East Japan Railway Co. (QNA)
