Legal Affairs and Human Rights Director-General meets IAEA officials

Ambassador Dr. Yusuf Abdulkarim Bucheeri, the Director-General of Legal Affairs and Human Rights at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met several officials of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), on the sidelines of the 67th session of IAEA’s General Conference, held in Vienna, Austria, from September 25 to 29.

Dr. Bucheeri held a meeting with IAEA Director-General, Rafael Mariano Grossi, whom he congratulated on his re-election for a new four-year term. He also stressed the need to strengthen the Bahrain-IAEA relations in the field of peaceful use of nuclear technology and science. He also praised the tireless efforts exerted by the IAEA chief to strengthen the Agency’s role in promoting international cooperation for peace and development.

The Director-General of Legal Affairs and Human Rights at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also held a separate meeting with the team responsible for technical cooperation at the IAEA, which oversees the current technical cooperation projects for the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The two sides discussed future opportunities available to develop cooperation, including projects related to the use of technology and nuclear science to support cancer patients and address environmental pollution in particular.

The importance of developing national capabilities and increasing participation in regional and global training courses organised by the IAEA was also discussed.

Ambassador Dr. Yusuf Abdulkarim Bucheeri and his accompanying delegation participated in all the sessions of the 67th of IAEA’s General Conference, including those devoted to voting on draft resolutions.
